Kieron family in Carrickmacross or Drumgoosat, County Monaghan
« on: Wednesday 02 April 14 20:05 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information concerning:
Joseph Kieron b. 15 Feb 1874 in Drumgoosat; d. 1939 in Butte, Montana, US

Parents:
Peter Kieron and Jenny (or Jane, or Genevieve?) Martin; birth and death dates unknown

Siblings:
Thomas b. 1867 in Carrickmacross; died 1905 in Butte, Montana, US
Michael b. 1877 in Drumgoosat; d. 1900 in Carrickmacross
Jane b. 1879 in Carrickmacross; possibly married Bernard Bannigan in 1914 in Carrickmacross

Joseph emigrated to the US probably about 1895.
Brother Thomas also emigrated to the US some time before 1902.

Have seen many variations on surname name as follows: Kieron(s), Kearan(s), Kieran(s). In the US, it is spelled "Kieron".

I have records I obtained from either Ancestry.com or Familysearch.org to back up most of the information listed above.  I learned the names of Joseph's parents from a church marriage record here in the US.

I am particularly interested in any information on Joseph's parents, Peter and Jenny.  Any birth or death records, where they might be buried, etc.

Any and all help greatly appreciated!!

There were 3 Kieran households in Drumggosat in 1901:

(The last one is in Irish, just to make it a little more interesting). There were only 10 households in the townland so these are all likely to be related.

And in 1911:

The above is Thomas & Brigid from the 1901 census)

Griffiths Valuation for  1861 has 5 Kierans households: Thomas, Martin, Laurence, Peter & Bernard. Peter’s was plot 12 which was  a farmhouse, outbuildings and  a total of about 23 acres.

Possible death for Peter Kieran registered in Carrickmacross Oct – Dec 1899, Vol 2, page 289. Est year of birth 1821.

Thanks so much for all the information, especially the birth and death dates for Peter Kieron.  Am hoping to make it to Ireland next year to visit County Galway and County Monaghan.  This information will be very helpful!!
