Gibby,

Eileen is on the ancestry list of births registered in Keighley (as is Mollie).  As they might well be still alive, I wont post references, but if you need them PM me.

Went to school with a Molly her real name was Maureen.
It does seem to be an Irish thing.

I have a granddaughter called Molly.  That was what she was named, not short for anything.

Names like Molly and Polly are names used in their own right these days, like Lizzie's grandaughter.

However in the past Molly was ususally a shortened form of Mary and Polly was a variation of Molly for reasons unknown.

Possible Irish origins.  :)

One of my great aunts was a Molly ...but she was originally a Marian.

...talking of which, I've always understood that Polly was a common alternative for Mary Ann.

The lady you want is on the birth indexes .....she was born in 1931- so may still be alive?

I will give the full details if you are 100% certain that she is not.

Decided to PM Gibby with the info  ;)
