Oh, absolutely - shoebox  ;) :)

Sometimes I have the devil's own job trying to work out which databases have the images and which just have transcribed info...spend days cursing because I can't find the images I saw the other day, then realise it's in a different place  >:(  ;D

Well Jenn you are I are on a par with our searching skills ;)  I can only bring up on the Assisted, a database index ...I can't see where you can click onto an image ::)  Wonder what we are doing wrong....annoying actually.

Agree with you Prue...about the images and databases...will have to resort to the trusty notebook.  Senior moments and all that with me at the moment ::) ::) :-[

Must be bedtime for me ;) ;)   I'll do a Scarlet O'Hara [from Gone With The Wind]  I'll think about it tomorrow!

Dear Prue, Sue, MA, Jamjar and Jenn.

Robert HAYES, born 25 Feb 1818 Gort, Co. Galway, Ireland, occupation: Gardener, emigrated to Australia via ship 'Royal Consort' November 1840 from London; religion Roman Catholic; he could read and write and was of good health.  With him was his wife Mary Ann nee MILLS born 6 Jul 1817 Clonis or Clones, Co.Monaghan, Ireland, the daughter of James MILLS (occupation Farmer) and Sarah MCCAVEL.

Children (7):-

1. Sarah HAYES born 14 June 1842 Maitland NSW married Michael MANENY.  I can't find their marriage in NSW.  Spouse name provided by HAYES descendants.


2. Robert HAYES born 19 January 1844 Maitland NSW


3. James Patrick HAYES born 1 July 1846 (Reg.No.V18463106 64/1846) Millers Forest NSW died 1 Jun 1905 Vulcan Street (now Carrington) NSW buried Sandgate Cemetery, Newcastle - no other burial details known.  Occupation not known. Married 24 November 1870 St.Mary's, Newcastle NSW (Reg.No.2996/1870) Margaret HOY born 22 May 1848 Maitland NSW died 27 May 1924 Howe Street, Redbourneberry, Singleton, NSW and is buried at Queen Street Cemetery, Singleton NSW.  Family believe she was the daughter of Michael HOY and Ann NEWMAN.  I had always believed from my grandfather that 'HOY' was actually 'HOEY' or perhaps that is how the surname was pronounced.

James & Margaret HAYES had 10 children:-

1) William Joseph Henry HAYES (Harry) born 3 Nov 1871 Patricks Plain NSW (16006/1871) died 1945 (?) married Violet May MAHER ... no other details known.

2) Ann Matilda HAYES (Annie) born 1872 Glendon Brook NSW (birth reg?) died 8 Aug 1940 Newcastle NSW (17671/1940) married 1895 Newcastle NSW  (1461/1895) Martin James JORDAN Jr. (son of Martin James JORDAN Sr. and Mary) born 1870 Newcastle NSW died 20 Nov 1949 Islington NSW ... 5 children i) Mary Cecelia Irene JORDAN (Rene) b 1896 Wickham NSW married Robert William MARTIN; ii) Martin J.H. JORDAN 1897~1897 Wickham NSW; iii) Albert Thomas JORDAN (Bertie) b 1902 Wickham NSW d 6 Apr 1968 Newcastle NSW; iv) Myra Alice JORDAN born aft 1907 d 13 Jul 1990 ? married John CULLEN; v) Margaret JORDAN.

3) Florence HAYES (twin of Edward) born 10 Jan 1875 Patricks Plain died 10 Jan 1875 Newcastle (details provided by family, can't find on NSW bdms)

4) Edward HAYES (known as Ted, twin of Florence 17721/1875) born 10 Jan 1875 Patricks Plain NSW died aged 4 years 18 Jan 1879 Newcastle NSW (7311/1879)

5) Mary Elizabeth HAYES (Minnie) born 18 Feb 1877 Newcastle died  aged 69 years 1(a) Hemiplegia (b) Hyperpiesis 2.Pulmonary phthisis 16 Apr 1946 District Hospital, Chinchilla QLD buried 17 Apr 1946 Chinchilla Cemetery QLD married 11 Nov 1901 Singleton NSW Lawrence Martin CANTWELL (Larry) born 14 Jun 1871 Patricks Plain NSW died aged 74 years a) Coronary thrombosis, b) Atheroma of arteries, 3 Feb 1945 'Monmouth' Chinchilla QLD, also buried Chinchilla Cemetery.  This couple were my granddad's parents.

Photograph attached below is of my grandfather's grandfather, James Patrick Hayes.  It is such a lovely photo and was originally in pretty bad shape, on thick card, ripped in half and stained - beautifully restored by RootsChatters.
