I'm looking for the parents of James Finnigan (Finegan) b; 1843 in Galway I believe.
James had a brother Patrick born abt 1840 and a brother Michael....I have a feeling they may have had a sister Bridget.
Any help would be great x

Hi There

Can we have more information please ?!

Did James stay in Ireland or emmigrate ?

If he emmigrated, where to ?

He obviously married, whom to, where, and have you not gotten their marriage cert to get their parent's names ?

How do you know his siblings names ?

Tara

Census 1881
James Finigan born 1843 aged 38 born in Ireland working as an Agricultural labourer living at 25 Abbey Street Leicester St Market. Living with wife Margaret aged 38 born in Whitwick and son Michael aged 7 daughter Bridgett aged 5, daughter Mary aged 0 (all kids born Leicester) and Patrick brother aged 42 working as a General Labourer born in Ireland.

I posted on the Mayo board because the newspaper I read said they came from Mayo but this census says Galway.

Census 1891
James Finnegan widower aged 48 Coal Heaver born in Galway living in Baker Street Leicester with son Michal  17 Shoe finisher, son John 7 scholar, daughter Bridget 15 Hosiery hand and daughter Mary 10 scholar.

Hi There

Our civil registration only began in 1864 so prior to that you are looking for church baptisms.

For that you need an exact townland that the person was from to see if records for that parish still exist.

Then you need both parent's names and mother's maiden name to see do you get a match if the records DO exist.

Given that you have NO parent's names and 2 possible counties of origin would make it near on impossible to search for this persons origins.

I would recommend that you friend purchase the marriage cert for James to see if any leads can be gleaned from it and then get back to us.

Good Luck

Tara

PS Galway and Mayo border each other and certain townlands overlap the two counties !
