Now have Walter out to Australia in 1912 followed by Ann along with Hilda age 5 and Frederick age 3 in 1914.  I've checked SP and a Frederick Jolly Burgess was born  1910 at Partick. When Ann and Walter marry in Montrose his address is listed Partick so that all ties in nicely.

Who were Walter's parents?

Walter's parents according to 1906 marriage certificate. David Burgess - wood contractor (?) (can't really make out clearly the word after wood) and Ann Campbell (deceased).  I've had a look at Walter on the 1891 census parents look a bit old to me? Can't see him or his father on the 1901 census.

Ah, as I thought. Yes, David Burgess married Ann Campbell in 1860, and Walter was the youngest of nine, born in 1881. David was born in Montrose in 1836, the fifth of six children of John Burgess and Ann Gardner (though her son John, who registered his father's death, thought her surname was Gillan). John was born in Benholm in 1802, parents John Burgess and Jean Greig. I do not know who John Sr's parents were. This family is not related to me.

Walter's not related to me either but he's been handy with those middle names in finding Anne  ;). Walter dies in 1950 at Randwick NSW and Anne dies in 1963 at Hurstville NSW.  Anne parents listed as William and Davitina (sp). That's all the girls accounted for just Authur and Charles' fate to be discovered....

A new year and another year of records released at SP  :)...downloaded the death certificate for the Charles Jolly who died in Aberdeen in 1964 and low and behold it's the correct guy!  He stayed single, worked as a ship plater and lived out his days in Aberdeen. His sister Mabel signed the death certificate - poor Mabel I've lost track of the number of death certificates she signs...
