The BULLY family

Hi

I am reserching the BULLY family in particular:

BENJAMIN WALTER BULLY
b  22 Jan 1878 Ware
d 21 Mar 1937 Tottenham

and his sister

EMMA BULLY
b 1880 Ware. 

Their mother was JANE BULLY and on Benjamin's birth certificate she is living at BALDOCK ST, WARE. 
There is no father's name.  I don't have the bc for Emma so I don't know if there is a father on hers.

I cannot find an 1881 census for the children or the mother.

However, in 1891 Benjamin and Emma Bully are living with Walter Mills and Jane.

I think Walter Mills married a Jane Berriman in 1975 Edmonton 3a 277.

On the 1881 census for Walter and Jane Mills they are living with his mother Emma and family with no sign of Benjamin and Emma Bully.
RG11/1425/55 p15

So my big question is, "where were Benjamin Walter and Emma Bully in 1881 and where did the mum Jane come from and disappear to?"

Just to finish off, Benjamin Walter and Emma Bully were brought up by Walter and Jane Mills and Walter at least and his subsequent family went by the name Mills. So a happy ending

Maybe the Jane with Walter IS Jane Bully.  I cant see a marriage, but maybe they didnt marry. 
With young Benjamins middle name as Walter, maybe he was the childrens father, but tbat we will never know.

I had thought of that but looks like Walter married a Jane BERRIMAN 1875 Edmonton.  Interestingly, in 1881 Walter and Jane were living  back in Ware with his widowed mother Emma.  So that rules that theory out as they were married before Benjamin Walter and Emma were born - but interesting the middle name of Walter.

I did look to see if I could find a Bully and Mills marriage but nothing and  I can't find a birth record either for sister Emma b 1880 either.

There is a Walter Mills / Jane Berriman marriage in the indexes, in Edmonton.

But we dont know that they are the same couple as Walter and Jane in Ware in 1891 with the 2 Bully children, do we?

Maybe Walter was already married (either that marriage in Edmonton, or another one to someone not necessarily called Jane), and that is why he and Jane Bully couldnt marry.

Apparently that Jane Berriman marries Joseph Hunt so she is crossed off now lol!!

Benjamin Walter Bully/Mills was born 22 Jan 1878 to Jane Bully and on the 1881 census Walter Mills and wife Jane? are living with his Widowed mother and there is no sign of any children.  This makes me think that he isn't with Jane Bully unless Benjamin and sister Emma b 1880 (who I am not sure who the mother is of her and just dangerously assumed it was Jane Bully!) were living elsewhere or just visiting other relatives on the day of the census?? 

On the 1911 census it states that they had been married 33 yrs marrying about 1878 the same yr of Benjamin's birth and that they had 9 kids with 7 living including Benjamin and Emma so wifey Jane is claiming them as her own!! 

I also tried looking for other records for Jane Bully but apart from an 1834 Jane there was nothing really.
Unless, someone has a birth certificate with the mother's name on for one of the other children I am stumped

Yes, the Bulley spelling has been picked up in some of the records.

Still sounds as if Walter and Jane are living together but never legally married.
