I am searching for information on the above families and hope there is someone who can help me please.

The information I have gathered so far –

I have also found a Bann/Marriage entry in SP for William Goldie and Janet Drysdale – Paisley Burgh or Low -

Have copy of Agnes Ross (MS Goldie) Death from SP -

At 13 Grovepark St, Glasgow.

Says she was 59 yrs. in 1891 (so born about 1832??)

Widow of John Ross, Farrier

Cause - Fractured ribs 2 1/2 day, emphysemia -  1 day

Parents - William Goldie, Grocer - deceased ; Janet Goldie (MS Drysdale) - deceased

Informant - John Plews - son-in-law (husband of Agnes & John Ross’s daughter Christina Ross)

I have no further information on Catherine.


I would dearly love to find some information on William Goldie and Janet Drysdale  - where born, family information, death, etc  and their children – occupations, marriages, death, etc.

I haven't been able to find any Census information on this family.

Also, what is the difference between HIGH CHURCH, PAISLEY, RENFREW, SCOTLAND   and LOW CHURCH, PAISLEY, RENFREW, SCOTLAND

If you look at the freeCEN transcriptions for the 1841 Census there is an Agness(14) and George(12) Goldie living with an Andw. Irvine & family , that may connect to this birth-

Perhaps the parents of Agnes and George died before 1841

   Thanks so much for your input – it helps greatly in relation to George Goldie (son of William Goldie and Janet Drysdale).

   The family reference you mentioned - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQWB-VBK - enabled me to find George’s wife – Elizabeth Anderson AND one of their children - Janet Drysdale Goldie.

From that I was able to find the marriage of George and Elizabeth - 07 Mar 1851 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland AND their 7 children –

1.   George Goldie – b. 06 Jan 1852, Gorbals, Lanark Scotland
2.   Andrew Irvine Goldie – b. 17 Sep 1853, Gorbals, Glasgow, Scotland

3.   Janet Drysdale Goldie – b. 01 Aug 1855, Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

I had previously seen the 1841 Census that you mentioned – Agness(14) and George(12) Goldie living with an Andrew Irvine & family, but at that stage wasn’t sure of the relevance. Agness and George must have had some connection as George later married Elizabeth Anderson and called one of his sons - Andrew Irvine Goldie.

Could Andrew Irvine have been a friend of their father William, and took the children in?

As you mentioned – perhaps the parents (William and Janet) of Agnes and George died before 1841. ... and after their other daughter, Catherine, was born 19 Sep 1829 in Paisley, Lanark, Scotland.

I still haven’t managed to find any information on parents William Goldie and Janet Drysdale or their third child Catherine.

Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
    I may have found the relationship between the Goldie and Irvine families via the Drysdale family (which to-date I have no information).

     I found an Andrew Irvine married a Catherine Drysdale on 7th Aug, 1824 in Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland.  This was a few months before William Goldie married Janet Drysdale.

     Could Catherine be the sister of Janet Drysdale?

     According to the 1841 Census - the Irvine family consisted of Andrew (40, Carpenter), Agnes (30,  possible 2nd wife), Marget (15, daughter of Andrew but a bit old to be daughter of wife Agnes?), Agnes (12, daughter of Andrew but maybe a bit old to be daughter of wife Agnes?), then a big gap to Catherine (1),  Plus Agness and George Goldie - orphans? of William Goldie and Janet Drysdale.

    I'm thinking that maybe first wife Catherine died leaving daughters Marget and Agnes. Andrew  then married Agnes (10 years younger) and they had Catherine (who may have been named after his first wife?)

    Now I have to find the connection between Janet and Catherine Drysdale (sisters?) - if any. I still don't know who Janet Drysdales  parents were or where she was born.

    Any suggestions please?

    In the 1830's in Scotland was there a disease/epidemic e.g. consumption, typhus, cholera, etc that was rife in some Scottish communities causing many deaths?
