trying to find family of clancy
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 22:33 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

firstly I would like to thank you in advance for any help you can offer!!! I am new at this and trying to find family for my mother, she has tried for years to find her family but has not had any luck. Her father died when she was child and the only thing she has is his birth certificate.  He was Hugh Clancy born on the 4/7/1893, in Manorhamilton/ Leitrim, to James and Bridget Clancy(nee Conlon).  If anybody can shed some light it would be wonderfull.

Regards

Jo

In the Irish civil registration index on the LDS Beta site, James Clancy & Bridget Conlon’s marriage is listed as registered in Manorhamilton Oct – Dec 1886, Volume 2, page 211.

There’s also a birth for a Hugh Clancy registered in Manorhamilton July – Sept 1893, Volume 2, page 188. You can get a photocopy of either cert from GRO Roscommon for 4 euros, provided you quote the place, year, quarter, volume and page number on the application form. www.groireland.ie/

That should give you the family’s townland, which in turn can be used to trace the  line back.

Thanks i'm relatively new at this so thank's very much for the help..this is really great.  Can you tell me why they would appear in the 1911 census but not on the 1901 census???? A bit puzzled it's as if they disappeared for a while??  :) ???

Regards

They are in the 1901 census. The name has been mistranscribed as Claney:
