"Keltoune-Mylne" Is this Gelton??
« on: Friday 03 February 12 02:32 GMT (UK) »
I recently found a testament listed in Edinburgh Commissariot Register...

1574:  John MacClyne of Keltoune-Mylne in Kirkcudbright

This may be the father of my ancestor Gilbert McCleane of Dumfries (c1570-1625)  and was wondering where exactly this was

This would most likely be the parish of Kelton, Castle Douglas.

Good luck with your research!
Kirkcudbrightshire : McMurray/ie, Haining, Hanning, McAdam, McClune.
Ayrshire: Livingstone
East Lothian: Anderson

Hi,

Kelton Mill still exists!
It is just a few hundred yards north east of the community of Rhonehouse/Kelton Hill near Castle Douglas.
Ordnance Survey grid ref is NX746603.
On Google earth  follow the road north eastwards from the centre of Rhonehouse and take the first left fork after leaving the village. Kelton Mill is an old white building on the right beside a small bridge.
It was the mill for the large estate of Keltonhill. The current farm buildings are just upstream from the mill.
Much of the land is now part of National Trust's Threave Estate.
Hope this helps.
