Stewart Alexander Kerr Davies (nee Gibson)
« on: Tuesday 24 April 12 09:18 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm looking for any information on Stewart Alexander Kerr Davies (nee Gibson).  I know she married an Edward Davies a Lead miner from Wales (wher and when I dont Know).  She was born c1811.  She had a daughter Jessy (jessie) Kerr Davies in c1839 who married a William Erskine.  I think she also had a son who had the same name as her in c1853.  I can find edward Davies on the 1841 census working in a lead mine but no reference to Stewart or her child (children).  I believe her father might have been Archibald Hugh Gibson.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Thank you Sharon, that is absolutely brilliant.   Do you have any idea where the Kerr part of her name came from?  Is it an old family name?

Again many thanks

Barbara

Possible siblings  for Stewart, father Archibald Gibson all born  Minnigaff, Kirkcudbrightshire

William Kerr Gibson born 07/01/1801
Jesse Gibson born 23/03/1803
Hugh Kerr Gibson born 30/03/1805
Jesse Gibson born 17/02/1807
Robert Gibson born 28/05/1814
Rubina Kennedy Gibson born 29/05/1818

My guess is that the mother's name was Kerr, can not see a marriage though.

I have just joined this forum as I am quite new to family history research.

Jessie Davies is my GGG Grandmother and I had only just managed to find out that her father was Edward Davies.  I had no idea about Jessie's mother.  Thanks to this post and subsequent replies, I can now add Stewart, my GGGG grandmother and also her father, Archibald, to my family tree.

Thank you  :)

Hi Welcome to Rootschat.
I believe that Jessie Davies is my husbands ggg grandmother as well.  I believe that Jessie's daughter Elizabeth lived with then married in 1903 a Charles Drury Holmes from Halifax. They lived for a time in Chorlton, Manchester and then moved to Lancaster.  They had a son, another Charles, who married a Dorothy Hurlston who then went on to have my husband's father Leslie Charles Holmes and my husband is Leslie Charles Holmes and Audrey Winn Daniels' eldest son.  So somewhere down the line you are related to my husband Leslie Joseph Holmes.
It is quite fascinating doing family history and finding out how many strands are added when ever you make a new discovery.
Glad we were able to help in some small way.
Good luck
Barbara Ann

My connection is through Jessie and William's daughter, Isabella Findlay Erskine.

Isabella married William Purdie, their son John Fulton Purdie married Elizabeth Gunn and their child Elizabeth was my grandmother.  My grandmother was an only child and when my mother was 7 years old, they came to Australia.

I only knew little bits and pieces in regards to my grandmother's family, as she didn't talk about it a lot.  I have uncovered a skeleton in the closet (or two  ;D) and there are a couple of strange pieces of information I hope to work out soon.

Thank you for the nice welcome.
