SP/GROS - Help with prefix no. for Duirinish Marriage Please
« on: Tuesday 07 January 14 21:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am wondering if this is the same marriage, in the same area. If so, why have it listed twice?
Spent so much to date, I'm now being cautious  ;D as another roothunter has suggested they are both different. He (groom) was from Fasach, she was from Lusta so I thought probably registered at both their local area parish but both Fasach & Lusta are under Duirinish ???

I'm confused  ::)

Hi Annie  :)

This must be connected to your post here I think www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=652424.0

I would bet it is the same marriage (if I was a betting girl  ;)). I think this is a good question to put directly to SP perhaps via their contact pages?

Hi Monica & thanks,

GOOD IDEA !!!!! as that is a sure way of draining peoples purses/wallets.

Bad enough that they have RC's (Catholics) separate.......what is all that about?

I have family who I believed to have been Protestant from my own mother being so, but found out (THROUGH yourself) !!!!! the reason I couldn't find them was because they were actually Catholic further back unknown to me. If they had all been listed on the same page I would have found them no problem !!!!

I have had look in Ben Bloxham's "Key to the Parochial Registers of Scotland". The suggestion about  Fasach & Lusta is probably correct as each district of the parish kept separate registers.

Hi

The marriage is before Statutory Registration commenced in 1855 so the references refer to the Parish Registers. It is most likely the reading of the Banns in the Parishes of both the bride and the groom. It is not an uncommon event.

Hi,

Thanks C & A, no more searching as they do seem to be the same  ::)

Myself & another descendant have been unable to find that Niel/Neil's death & he was convinced there were 2 couples with same names so basically I am double checking.

Hi Monica,

Thinking about it, no-one at SP would know if it was the same couple or not as they are only going with what's written  ;D

Hi

You need to look at the original parish registers for the exact wordings. If the bride and groom came from different parishes then it was not unusual for the Banns to be read in both Parishes, The marriage itself could have taken place in either Parish some time later  although it was usually in the brides, possibly at her home. Unfortunately the actual marriage location is often not mentioned

I have the download for No. 8 which lists everyone on the page within the Duirinish area, married 13 Feb 1844 - 25 Jan 1848 but when someone is convinced it's wrong, you start to believe it.

The other descendant has info. from a 3rd party but nothing to back it up so I am having trouble convincing him that I have the facts on paper e.g. marriage, kids birth certs. etc. but having trouble convincing him the info. given to him seems to be wrong  ::)
