raggyroo, just adding to what you have so far...not necessarily anything clearer for Robert Thomson. You have Margaret's death now which confirms what we have from her marriage, birth entry and likely census with her family. Think she is quite straightforward to work back from there.

Robert is the problem  :-\ Everything I have seen so far, seems to have something different.

You have his marriage entry with parents' names of Robert Thomson, house carpenter master and Annie Anderson, both deceased at the time of his marriage in 1895 in Inverness.

You have on this post that Ev mentioned a son (I thought Norrie was a girl  :P) marrying in 1936 in Inverness, father Robert deceased by now. I think Norrie was born in Ardersier in 1917, fits with his marriage age in 1936.

I think this is Robert's death below in 1918 in Ardesier. Issues with mother's name in general. Death reported by wife Margaret McDonald. From this, if his age is more accurate, he looks to have been born c. 1867/8. I think also his age from 1911 general searches showed as c. 40...so issues there too.

Going back to Malky's mention of a marriage in 1869 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTJW-94H - bride shows as Mary Ann Anderson.

I can only see one birth with parents with that name here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYRZ-4DC ....maybe married just before child's birth givent those dates, and then, I'm lost again with that!

Added: Maybe this one for 1871:

Robert Thomson 23 police constable b. Selkirk
Mary A Thomson 31 b. Aberdeen
Mary Thomson 2 b Aberdeen

Address: No 63 College St, Old Marchar

Don't think this group is connected  :-\

OK, just because this search for Robert is so complicated, which at some point makes you wonder whether he may have been illegitimate, and also the names for mother are varying as are Robert's age and his father's occupation, just adding this birth entry from 1870:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYT4-HMK

Jane comes up on his death cert in 1918...although no surname  :-\

Following on with my theory that Robert may have been registered as Anderson, there is this 1871 census entry:

Peter Anderson 44 general labourer
Ann Anderson 43 b. Edinburgh
Jane Anderson 21 daughter b.
Rob Brown 7 Months
grandson b. Aberdeen
Margaret Anderson 13 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYR4-3YV
Mary Anderson 7 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYRW-5VF
Agnes Anderson 5 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYR4-673

Address: 7 Peacocks Close, Aberdeen St Nicholas

Maybe this is the source of the name Peter born in 1901 to Robert and Margaret (Peter Anderson)?

Monica

Added: All fine and good as a possibily, but cannot jump from here to the surname Thomson so far... :-\

Also, there is this entry for 1881, still closer to Brown than Thomson:

Jane Anderson 28 millworker
Maggie Anderson 23 millworker
Mary Anderson 18 millworker
Robert Brown 10...son of Jane

Address: 6 Murrays Court 24 L St West, Aberdeen
