When you're stuck, as you clearly are with Ellen in the absence of a baptism, you have to follow every possible lead. And that should include viewing the marriage entries in the relevant parish registers to see if the witnesses provide a clue. You might get lucky and find a Gregory with an unusual name, although I've never been that fortunate.

The Cambs FHS site also has a burial index 1810-37 but again there are no Gregorys in Ely, but quite a few in Wisbech
