Hello Dumpling

Looks as though he must have died before 1855.  Just come off Scotlands People - and using the free search.  From 1855 to 1920 - only one John Snodgras/s died in Bute - and that was in 1900 in Rothesay.

Regards,   Steve

Thanks Steve.
My John was 67 in 1851 in Millport so can't be the 1900 one.
Did you see how old that one was?
Hedley

The SGS has published MIs for Bute, Arran and Cumbrae. There is an MI for a John Snodgrass aged 73 but no date of death!

Thanks Irene for your messages.
Can you tell me where the mainland death was in 1857? My boy may have been visiting relatives.
H.

Hi,

The death that Irene mentions was in St Nicholas district, Aberdeen. He was 57 and mother's maiden name is on the index as Holmes.

There are two other John Snodgrass deaths between 1855 and 1861, their ages both unrecorded on the SP index; 1859 in Paisley (Low Church) and 1860 in Canongate, Edinburgh.

There is only one death in the SP OPR deaths for the name between the two dates and that relates to the same person as the Paisley d.c.
