Thanks everyone for all your help! I am grateful.
Thanks for the Sussex Advertiser information. I need to find out more about the trade basket making. I don't understand why anyone would want to steal 19 baskets.
) Perhaps it was for what was inside the baskets.
Now that I know that my "Henry" was released from hulk prison in 1830, the births of his children make sense. I am wondering if perhaps F.P. could simply stand for "Freed Prisoner" or "Felony Probation"
Unfortunately I do not have any birth certificates for Henry and Elizabeth Etherden's children.
Their daughter Margaret Ann married James Foord in All Saints, Hasting. James Foord was a "Sawyer".
They had a daughter Margaret born May 14, 1852 in Hastings, in the sub-district of Ore, Sussex. On her birth certificate her mother's maiden name was spelt "Hatherton" However the birth certificate that I was sent does not look like it is in the original handwriting.
This daughter - granddaughter of Henry and Elizabeth Etherden/Hatherton was married April 2, 1871 to Stephen Clark, All Saints, Hastings, Sussex.
Although I believe that Henry Eatherden was born in Lewes, Sussex, England, I have no proof. His son John was christened January 23, 1831 in Lewes, Sussex.
Checking the Mormon Church records I found the death for a Henry Hatherton, Jan.Feb. Mar. quarter 1838 in Hastings, Sussex, England.
I feel confident that the Elizabeth found in 1841 census without her husband is mine. Thanks.
Thanks for the information about the second marriage of Elizabeth to Reuben Easton.
I must confess that I am still feeling bewildered and confused!:o)
Best wishes to all
