Help with a Marriage Look-Up for Claribel Walker
« on: Thursday 10 July 14 21:14 BST (UK) »
I need some help please with a marriage look up for Claribel Walker.  She was born in Halton, Leeds in 1879.  She was one of several children of John Walker and Theresa Atkinson.  The latest I have her is in the 1901 census when she is aged 21 and at home with her parents and sister Martha.  Also there is Percival Gilfin, aged 34, who was born in Ewhurst, Sussex.

I have found several trees on A******y with her on them which say that she is married to Percival Thomas Reed Gilfin, but for the life of me I cannot find this for myself.  I have looked on A******y and FindMyPast to no avail.  I have searched for Percival's death and found that and probate details, which gives Clara Gilfin as his widow, so they must have married, but the question is where and when!!!  I also know that Claribel (Clara) died in Selby in 1962.  All help much appreciated to help me solve this mystery before I go mad.

Thanks for the links you gave.  I've tried them but there is some kind of technical error as it says "we are unable to display page content due to technical difficulties.  Please try again in a few minutes".  I'll keep trying.

I've already searched the 1911 census several times, I cant find them on it.

Which site are you trying on (aside from the misbehaving Familysearch links)?

I'm looking mainly on Ancestry and FindMyPast.

Eventually got the 1911 census, no wonder I couldnt find them, as you say she is listed as Clare Gilfin.  It says that they have been married 10 years, so they were married in 1901.  Still no sign of a marriage though.

FamilySearch.org: "We are unable to display page content due to technical difficulties. Please try again in a few minutes"

I get the exactly the same error and have done for over 18 months. I have no plugins, tried the site from 3 different browsers on 3 different operating systems and the only way I can see the results is if I change which Domain Zone I'm in (i.e. change to a US proxy because I am not in the US). I have  proven this conclusively - so clearly something very wicked is going on here.

OK, so they didn't marry in England or Wales - BUT that doesn't mean that they didn't marry, say, in Scotland, or elsewhere  :-\

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
