Marriage look up
« on: Thursday 28 August 14 15:27 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking for a marriage between John Stevens (born 1805) and a Rebecca  ? (born abt 1807)

Both were born in Wiltshire but the marriage does not appear to have been there.

The first child I have found (so far !) was born at Witney in 1835

I was posting the census as John's wife has a different first name in 1841  ::)

Maybe you could get one of the childrens birth certificates which would give a maiden name.

Thank you very much  rosie and Galium-rosie I had missed the difference in the name in the 1841 census.

Yes,I may need to get a birth certificate to verify the mother's name..there may have not been a marriage  :)

Again many thanks

Kim

It looks as though the children were all baptised with mother Rebecca so probably a second name /middle name or pure mistake in 1841.

There was a marriage between John Stevens and Rebecca Alman in Stokenchurch on 4 Nov 1833 - the date fits in nicely, but it is about 30 miles from Witney.

Interestingly there is a marriage between John Stevens, widower and Rebecca Willis, widow in Witney, but as that was in 1813, way too early for your lot!

Nothing under Stephens or Steevens.

Linda

Thank you for that I will check it out-I had seen the other 1813 marriage but they were also both widowed.
