Loughrea / Black and Tans
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 01:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Is anyone aware of what records exist for the 'Black and Tans', specifically for the Loughrea area?

Whilst researching my family history, I have been told that my Grandfather escaped them several times!!!!

 :o ???

Many thanks,
Glen

if you go through google or ask jeeves then put in search box Black and Tans in Loughrea or civil war in Loughrea

I alway thought the Black and Tans were like a secret organization?

I understood from my late Mother that the Black and Tans were actually somekind of "para military"
set up made up of ex police,  undesirables and general "hardmen" types.  The Black and Tan signifying the mixed colour of their "uniform", probably khaki and "police" blue.
Their reputation in Southern Tipperary was one of cruelty and intimidation etc.  This was told personally to me when my Mum was in her eighties!
