It looks very odd - it may be the scan or just how it looks on my monitor, but odd that the two men are so dressed up with such a ratty looking background - perhaps they were just on their way out. Also they look a bit 'superimposed' - and there appear to be lines around the men as though they had been cut out of another photo especially around the head and shoulders - possibly an early photoshopped photo.  :)

PS. I think they have a similar look to them so possibly brothers - they're both a bit good looking.  ;)

What you are seeing is the result of over sharpening of the photo at the scanning stage Ruskie....which often gives that halo effect.

Carol

Oops, that explains it then. How embarrassing.  :-[

Still a pretty 'rustic' backdrop to pose for a photo in front of.  ;D

It is a bit rustic ...

I'm going to agree with Leanne and say I don't see any likeness in their features, that's not to say they aren't siblings I suppose.

Ruskie, this is rural Western Australia in 1918-1922 wouldn't you expect it to be "rustic"? ;
Their clothing doesn't look too rustic - quite well dressed I'd say :D

It was the contrast of the smart clothes, handsome lads and scruffy background that I found interesting.  ;)

Nothing wrong with the background, if you didn't know different could be U.S. or UK. Smart young men but look at the boots rather than shoes. Metalling the roads, tar macadam did not start until post WWI in UK. Women wore boots too, got lots of photo's of my wider family in the 20's so shod.

Hi Joe,    Yes, positive it is Western Australia.  The family in question moved there
             around 1913 with interests in the dairying industry though not as farmers.

Regards,
Jen.

Thanks Jen ........ your answer begs the question;
'Where did they move to WA *from*'?
My interest only relates to the photo
