Wrist watches have actually been around since the 1850s. We've had a couple of discussions on this on the board :)

Cheers,

Does the wrist watch help with the date
no only the time.

And I thought I was being both observant and helpful. ;)

I had researched  - a bit- and whilst earlier dates were given, I did read that they didn't become popular until later. I'll retire now and leave it to you experts.

Ladies had been wearing wristwatches for some time, but men didn't start doing it until some war, maybe the Boer, so they could coordinate troop movements.

Thanks for the photo comparison Jim, the girls on the right are definitely the same. The lady on the left I hadn't noticed the wedding ring, great spot that John. I've been told that is Selina Tulley. She was born in 1880 and she got married in 1905. She had two boys.

Heywood, do you have any date suggestions based on the watch on the picture?

Mickie - I wish I could. I thought it may be a help but obviously not. This was based on my reading that female watches for the 'masses' was around 1920s,  rather than previously when they were more for the middle and upper classes.
I just joined in because I liked the photograph.
China and Jim seem to have much better knowledge of these matters and also of dress styles.
Good luck

I love the picture too, Heywood. I thought it would be a task of identifying four sisters of my great-grandfather, but its clearly not that simple given the revised dates from contributors who have much more knowledge than I!

I'm beginning to think along those lines, but I'm sure they are not her children.
