Possible marriage of Joseph and Elizabeth -

Joseph Meredith
Marriage Date - 19 Apr 1824
Marriage Place - Garway,Hereford,England
Spouse - Elizabeth Edwards

On the 1851 there is a William Edwards 81 lodger - could be Elizabeth's father. Elizabeth states her birthplace as Garway.

All that said it still doesn't help to find James  ???

I live in Penallt (double LL !) near Monmouth.

I don't think I can add any more to what has been found already, but can add a few corrections if you want the records correct:-   Penalit ... is a wrong transcription of the Welsh double LL;   Wolves Newton is not in Monmouthshire but in Herefordshire, just a couple of miles over the border.

I wonder why James gave his religion as Church of Scotland; at the time of his birth here he would have been Church of England, but after 1923 when the Welsh church became disestablished, it would become the Church in Wales.

Meredith is a very common surname in and around Monmouth.

Bryan has an ancestor born in the 19th century - he went to Australia on his own when he was 16 years old and ended up working on a farm same as James.   I wonder if your James went off to see the world when he was a teenager too.
