Tucker Family ... Cornwall 1877
« on: Thursday 09 October 14 10:54 BST (UK) »
I have an Australian Tucker falily that I'm wishing to find the roots of. I have found a shipping record of 1877 of their arrival into Sydney.

William Tucker arrived with his wife Rachel 7th May 1877 and she gave bith to son William John Tucker later that same year. A BDM search reveals 2 other siblings.

The ship was the Delhousie that departed Plymouth 26 Jan 1877. Its records reveal:
William Tucker age 26 (birth ABT 1851)
Occupation: Mason
Wife Rachel age 24 (birth ABT 1853)
Religion for both: Wesleyan
Both could Read & Write
Native place for both: Cornwall

I also searched the ships records for other Tuckers but drew a blank. They were assisted imigrants.

Sadly I cannot find death records in Australia for this couple. I do not know Rachels maiden name or date of marriage but I'd guess 1876/7 as they had no children with them.

Son William married into my family.

Any information on this couple would be very warmly received.

Regards Rob

A tree on Ancestry states William Tucker b.12/5/1850 Altarnun, Cornwall, son of John Tucker and Elizabeth Searle, married 29/12/1876 Penryn, Cornwall to Rachel Williams.    William shown to have died 1916 and Rachel in 1915 although simply states they died in Australia.

PS Just found marriage on Cornwall OPC and as already stated they actually married 19/12/1876 (not 29) Constantine.

And there it all is. The 1877 date is back to 1810. You folk on RootsChat are the best.

Let me correct an error I made in my posting so all future researchers who find this post are not mislead. The name of the ship they arrived in Sydney was actually the "Earl Dalhousie".

Annette you were quick off the mark. I seldom use Ancestory because of errors that folk have entered into their system. It sure is a great place for leads though. I had searched NSW BDM for their deaths but with multiple finds I couldn't pick one from another besides there is family information saying that they moved to Western Aust. Searching the WA site was no easier because I was without their parents names to match things to. Did you find an actual family tree on Ancestory or just records Annette?

Grandies uncovered another great lead on Ancestory which was proven by Garrad with his multiple finds which proved that everyone was on the right track all along. The 1851 census find certainly puts everybody in the right picture. So grateful.

Thanks to you all for your time and effort in taking the Tucker family back a further two generations.

If anybody has the urge to search for marriage info on siblings it would be much appreciated as I'd like to see if they followed William Tucker to Australia. Without married names I cannot check our passenger records.

How do I say that "I owe you one" and make it sound sincere. I am close to Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney if you ever need a photo or two.

Regards, Rob
