Mongo Reid
« on: Friday 07 March 14 12:38 GMT (UK) »
Our ancestor, Margaret Reid is a bit of a mystery. In the 1911 census she's shown as being born in 1865 in Torquay (probably a mistake as that was where she was living with husband Edward Pearce). In 1901 shes shown as being born 1862 in Stratham, Scotland.

We'd really like to trace her roots. Her marriage certificate in 1887, Newton Abbot, gives her father's name as Mongo Reid (deceased) and her age as 26. The certificate says Mongo was a tailor. We have no record of her family before her marriage and would welcome any help. Thank you.

Thank you both - you also answered another question I hadn't mentioned. We wondered if Mongo's occupation was really Sailor rather than tailor. You've also provided me with Margaret's mother's name which is a great help. Very grateful to you both.
