The Heath family
« on: Monday 12 February 07 19:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Has anyone else out there been researching the 2 branches of the Heath family who moved to Monmouthshire from Staffordshire in the mid 1800s?

I can do the census lookups but wondered if there was any additional information that anyone has that we can exchange.

After a long break I am back researching my Heath Family. Samuel who married Sarah Browne in 1853 moved to Llanfair ???spelling, Monmouthshire,
from Staffordshire.
Samuels father was George born in 1793 married Mary ???when
Georges father was John born abt 1760 married Ann Atkins ???when
I am married to Georges 3rd great grand son (if my maths are right!)
Does any one know where the family stayed (farmers) in Llanrair/Llanfair and have any more info about the family?
Thank you
BHAH (yes, the H does stand for Heath)

Hello BHAH,

I am descended through Samuel's son William, who married his first cousin, Clara (daughter of Samuel's brother Enoch (they also moved to Monmouthshire). William and Clara were married in Leicestershire and stayed there, with their family, for the rest of their lives. I don't have alot of information about the family otherwise, other than what can be found on the censuses, but would be interested to know which branch you are from.

I guess that also makes me George's great great great granddaughter.

Hi
One of the Heath lines whom moved from Staffordshire to Monmouthshire are descended from Samuel Heath from Horton and Mary Harrison also born Horton whom had a number of children besides John Heath whom I am descended from and your line Joshua Heath baptised 19 March 1780 Horton Staffordshire marries Jemima (maybe Martha Jemima Gaunt or maybe a Jemima Lawton) son John Heath baptized 27 April 1823 Horton Staffordshire married Ann Sutton on the 1861 and 1871 censuses were living at Woodhouse Brown Edge Staffordshire about one mile from Horton.  by the 1881 census they had moved and living Southwell Court Garway Herefordshire.
One of the sons George Heath born 1858 Brown Edge Staffordshire married Florence Hodgkiss and on the 1891 1901 and 1911 censuses living at Trellech Grange and died 1935 at Caerwent.
The other line of Heaths seem to have originated from Cheddleton Staffordshire less than 10 miles from Horton.
On Saturday 2nd May 2015  from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. there is going to be a Heath gathering from Horton and Cheddleton to be held at Endon Village Hall Station Road Endon Staffordshire between Leek and Stoke-on-Trent.

Hi Denise,

A huge welcome to RootsChat.

I am very sorry to have to tell you that BHAH's notification bounced back to us sadly because it looks like they have changed email address.  I have been unable to find any more details I am afraid.

Wishing you the best of luck with your research.

Regards

Sarah :)
