Watkins & Bakers of Llandogo
« on: Sunday 28 February 10 16:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Im trying to fit together my husbands family from Trelleck & Llandogo, but its giving me such a headache!!!

I have searched on the internet for the Bpt of John Richards abt 1774-1782 in Trelleck to see if I can find out who his parents could be but nothing - no John Richards about those dates !

I have also searched for John Watkins bpt abt 1758 (according to his burial record in 1833 - provinding I have the right record!!) & his wife Martha Baker.  Im guessing they were the same age.....but I know they might not be.  I have found nothing for them in Llandogo where they lived & bpt their children.

Any help or advice on where to go from here would be great !!

Thanks
Jan

Thanks Kerry
Yes there are a few but not when I am looking for is there...
He married Susannah Luff in 1803, he was just "FA" on his marriage certificate, a batchelor living in Trelleck.....it is quite a common name in the area by the looks of it but not a bpt for the years I am looking for.

I think the Luff family are still up around Trelleck (The Narth)

17th April 1872 John Watkins married Martha Baker Llandogo
there are more Baker and Richards details here -

I think there are Richards families around Llandogo still

Thanks for the info, are you from the area or have a connection to the families ?

We are going to take my father in law up that direction in the summer to see where his family are from, he is in his 80s & both his parents died when he was a baby so never knew any of his family.
Would be good to find him some living relatives!!!

My grandmother was Lily May Watkins. I think her father may have been John? They owned the inn at Trelleck which I believed burned due to a candle fire. Her family are buried at the cemetary at Llandogo.

She married William Seneca Bennett and they had one child Derek. Lily May had several brothers and sisters.

Thanks, Emma

Hi!
Lily May Watkins was my grandmother's sister, her name was Eva Blanche Watkins,  her daughter April (Ann) is my mother, so we are related!Their father was William Job Watkins, and he ran several inns in both Llandogo and Trellech. His wife was Annie Phillips. I have done quite a lot of the family history and I am currently researching the possibility of writing a book on Eva's life.
Regards,
Joy
