William NIVEN of Forteviot
« on: Friday 29 June 12 12:07 BST (UK) »
Hi all.

I am hoping someone can help me with a bit of a brick wall. My g-g-grandmother Margaret NIVEN was born in Forteviot 18 July 1805 to William NIVEN  and Jean EDWARD (Forteviot OPR found on Scotlands People). I am now having real trouble finding a marriage for William & Jean on Scotlands People. I have found a marriage on Family Search for a William NIVING in Dunning on 6 December 1789 but no name is given for the spouse. I have tried searching using the batch Number for this entry but there does not seem to be a corresponding female married on the same day. I know I am having a very vague day (week, month, year!) with this so would really welcome any suggestions.

Cheers
Val

Hi Val ,

I think there is a good chance that is their marriage(or Banns)
First child ?

Dunning and Forteviot are very close
I have a feeling that looking at the original record won't help  :-\

Thanks ev, this is pretty much what I suspected but it's always comforting to get another opinion!

Just joined this forum and found your query. While I don't have document you were looking for, I am also related to William Niven and Jean Edward (through Thomas). It's great to find another relative.

Hi Folks

I'm rather late joining in on this conversation.  However, I have recently linked my ancestor William NIVEN born 1794 who married Mary GALLOWAY (1817) who is the son on Wm & Jean EDWARD who I believe may have married 6 Dec 1789 at Dunning. The link I found only shows one spouse so this is an educated guess.

I would love to hear from anyone who has these families in their line going further back, especailly the EDWARD line  I am finding it hard to locate parents as there seem so many born about the same period and in areas so close to one another to make an educated guess who the parents are.  Any NIVEN info is also welcome  ;)

TIA

Rachel,
The Niven side of my family is descended from Thomas Niven (b. 24 April 1803, Barefoot of Forteviot; d. 17 August 1877, Woodend, Madderty), who was William's brother. I have a tiny bit of info on the other siblings but have not yet explored the Edward side of the family.

Laird

I have two NIVEN lines actually.  Haven't been able to connect them although I am sure they are related.

Wm NIVEN Married Mary GALLOWAY and they had a daughter Jane (1820-1858)  who married Peter MILL (1815-1863).

Second NIVEN family are Wm NICOL born Craighead Of Pitquhantrie 1794 who married Catherine NIVEN (1807) parents Wm NIVEN 1761-1818 who married Mary WEDDERSPOON.  Their son Thomas NICOL my Great Grandfather married Jane who was the dau of Wm NIVEN and Mary GALLOWAY , mentioned above.

I still haven't been able to elaborate on the EDWARD line.

Happy to exchange further information if you are interested.

I am another descendant of William Niven and Jean Edward, through their daughter Euphemia.  I should be interested in exchanging information on the different branches, since I have no details of Euphemia's siblings' descendants.
