Hi
Swindon Library regularly post answers for GWR queries on Brit***-Gene****y.c**  and would possibly respond to emails as well.
also there are a number of UK, Railway employment records, 1833-1963: Which are available online from the National Archives via Anc****y.c*.**
Malmesbury- Bishop.
Gloucestershire-Bishop,Hicks,Higgs,Hill,Hooper,Hopkins,Pitcher,Robertson,Stinton,Terret,Woodruff.
Worcestershire-Stinton.
Devon- Borrough or Burrow.

Thank you both for your replies . I have Ancestry but my subs do not let me access GWR records. Is that all it says about William ? There is a newspaper article by GWR saying they have commended him and will enter it on his records . { Western Morning News  13th Nov 1924 } .I had wondered what deed he had done for such a commendation .
Regards
Alan

That's all it says!

The Staff records are simply the Staff Books:
Names, type of job, DoB, Date entered service, Rates of Pay - just as I mentioned.

You haven't updated your profile, so it's impossible to know where in the world you are, and what Ancestry subscription you may have?

But, if you go to Search, and Card Catalogue; enter Railway as a search term - UK Railway Employment records come up as the first item?
Then entering William Henry Thomas Prout will bring up those 2 entries I mentioned.

You may need to contact Swindon Library, or get someone to search the relevant records at TNA.

The TNA website has lists of researchers - and their specialities.

Some 10 or 15 years ago, I used one of these to lookup records for my great-grandfather.
Can't remember who I used - but because he was a Railway expert, he was very quick and not too expensive!

I should add that G-Grandfather was a stationmaster on the Somerset & Dorset, and trained on railways in Essex.

So nothing on Ancestry for me!

Hello ,I have been in touch with TNA and they tell me Ancestry has made an error and my relatives full records can be seen by entering Henry Thomas Prout William , William being the surname . I would appreciate if someone could look for me please . They told me to inform Ancestry of this error as well .
Thanks

Alan
