McCutchion James & Bridget (nee Dooloughty)
« on: Wednesday 15 January 14 21:45 GMT (UK) »
This couple married in 1855 Swansea, UK.  They had at least 2 children - Elizabeth and Robert born in Dalry, Ayrshire,Scotland.  I am trying to locate details on Bridget's parents.  She was born in Ireland and appears in 1851 census UK Swansea as "lodger".  She may be listed in the Scotland's People website under Catholic deaths where I believe less detail is given than in RGO deaths.   Would my best hope be her marriage certificate in Swansea?  I think the family appear in 1861 census Dalry,Ayrshire,Scotland.  (Various spellings make this a tad difficult to search)

Warm regards

Hello Loobylooayr!

Wow...that was amazing the speed of a response to my query and yes, that surely appears to be another child of the couple.  I am most grateful for your assistance and surely this will be a great help!

Many thanks

Alma, I'm not 100% sure but I think if Bridget died in Scotland there should be a death record in the Statutory Deaths on Scotlands People as well as perhaps a record in the Catholic Registers.
Do you have an idea of where and when she died?
A Scottish death record should have her parents names recorded if the person registering her death knew their names.

Hi again!

Not sure of date of death or place but I did a free search on Scotland's People and it brought up one Bridget McCutchon death but only in the Catholic Death portion 1742-1955 but I don't know of course if this is "my" Bridget.  There was also 1 exact match for this spelling in the 1861 Scotland Census.

I might need to think a bit more on where I go from here.

Many thanks...you are a busy beaver!

This looks like  the 1861 census that you are referring to in Dalry, Ayrshire.

Bridget McCutchon   36 b Ireland
Mary McCutchon   6 B England
Elizabeth Mccutchen   3 b Dalry
Robert I Mccutchen   1 b Dalry

Just looking at the name Dooloughty in Ireland.
Although I cant see anything around the time of Bridget's birth, ( most records start around 1860) it is noticeable that this last name is concentrated in Co Clare and Galway.

EDIT:
The SP site can be manipuated to get accurate info
There is a person called Bridget McCutchon on the Catholic Burials but it cannot be the woman in question.
This woman died in 1932 aged 75= year of birth circa 1860

I wonder if James McCutchion was  dead by the 1861 Census.
If so perhaps Bridget left Scotland.
Do you know if she and her children moved on?
Are you tracing down the line through one of her children? If so where is that child in future Censuses (if you have that info)?
I've done some permutations of Bridgit's name  on the free search at Scotlands Peoples Statutory Deaths and so far have not struck lucky. :(
Looby :)

Nope, not tracing through any of her children and really only discovered her in 1851 Uk Census yesterday.  I might even go for the marriage cert in UK as it will have her father's name at least and if he was not "John" I could exclude her from my immediate line but I suspect these families were all inter-related back in Clare/Galway - not a common name.
