Hi all

I live in Sweden and have access to many databases and records and ArkivDigital. If you want help I can certainly have a go.
Just let me know what is needed and I'll get going.

Hi again Spades...

Could I please make use of some Rootschat server space again.

It's for the same reason as before. I'd like to help out someone on the TradeMe board but it's a long-ish reply and would be pretty unbearable to read without decent formatting.

Don't really like doing this as I suspect I'm putting various noses out of joint on both boards but if it's okay with you that's all that matters.

Thanks again
Beg

my nose is not out of joint either, any advice you can give on both boards is invaluable like Janette says  :)

Hello Ian...

Thanks for the offer :)

Conrad Walter BERGMAN was naturalised in NZ in 1925. His papers say he was born on 30 Dec 1875 in Geoteborg, Sweden.

I've found a possible birth on ancestry.com but I can't read the image as the scan is quite poor quality.

Would you mind having a look on AD and telling me if I'm on the right track.

Hi Beg

poster has purchased the marriage printout and is waiting for it so here's hoping it has the parents names on it :)

Hi
I have had a look at the record. It says Conrad Valentin born 30 Dec 1875.

Conrad Valentin - b. 1875
Hilma Josefina - b. 1872
Anna Dorothea - b. 1878

Here is the family in 1890:
Bergman, Josef - b. 1846 - Father
Håkansdotter, Johanna Maria - b. 1847 - Mother
Hilma Josefina - b. 1872
Konrad Walentin - b. 1875
Anna Dorothea - b. 1878
Ellen Maria Gudiva - b. 1882
Ester Kristina - b. 1884
John Hugo - b. 1886

Hello Ian...

Thanks for that :-)

Not that great a stretch to change Konrad Walentin BERGMAN into Conrad Walter BERGMAN, especially as the date and place of birth are spot on.

The original poster (Mahairy) is purchasing Conrad's NZ marriage certificate. If Conrad listed his parents as Josef and Johanna would you mind finding their marriage and their parents (Conrad's grandparents). I think that would count as a result.

Out of interest, is there a Household Register entry for the family covering the 1900-1903 period. Conrad is supposed to have left home sometime around then. I'm wondering if there's a note mentioning when he left and where he went to.

Thanks again
Beg

Hi Beg
I had a look too after that but with no result. The problem is that I couldn't find him in the books. These books are very large with no indexing. I have my own databases to find people. I will look into it.
Was he a sailor?

Hi Ian...

I'm not too sure what Conrad did before he came to NZ but his NZ probate lists him as a stevedore.

I'd hold off looking any further until the original poster comes back with the info from Conrad's NZ marriage certificate. Don't want a wasted effort tracing the wrong person.

----

Having said that, finding Josef and Johanna may be as simple as finding them in the following indexes...

Flyttningsregister 1821-1882 A-G
http://www.arkivdigital.net/aid/info/v188687

Flyttningsregister 1821-1882 H-N
http://www.arkivdigital.net/aid/info/v188688

...or as tedious as tracing the following 1847 birth forward...

Johanna Maria HÅKANSDOTTER
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/V7FD-PYK

I'm assuming "Bafve, Goteborg Och Bohus" is a variation on Bäve.

If so, the birth mentioning the parent's residence will be here...

Bäve
Birth and Christening records 1812-1860

http://www.arkivdigital.net/aid/info/v2310

... and the corresponding Household Register will be here...

Bäve
Household records 1843-1854

http://www.arkivdigital.net/aid/info/v2290

But like I said, hold off until the parents names are confirmed.

Thanks again
Beg
