Harp without Widemarsh Gate Hereford

John Speed's map of Hereford dated  1606 shows a building on the site of the herdsman then, it is the only building outside the city wall on widemarsh st.  the Conningsby  hospital was built a few years later.

Issac Taylors map of 1757 shows more development along widemarsh st, the same building is there but extended,  so at least we know there was something there at the time you are looking.

It is surprising what you can find,  I now know that in 1808 a coach left London every sunday and arrived in Hereford the following Thursday

    "without"  outside the city walls.   On the same map is shewn Bye Street, and then Bye street without,

bye st is now commercial road

Part of the city wall is incorporated into Te-co's, the ring road around there runs alongside the side of the old city walls, so the farmers arms is just inside the city walls, the herdsman just outside the.
