English civil war.
« on: Wednesday 02 April 14 21:55 BST (UK) »
Hello all my family go back to 1510 in Seven Stoke (Clifton's).
I would be interested to know if Seven Stoke declared for parliament or king in the civil war.
         regards tobyma123. :)

I would think it might be for the crown since:

Quote
During the Commonwealth the minister of Severn Stoke was shot at in his pulpit by John Somers*. The hole is still to be seen in the pulpit.

...John Somers ... had fought for parliament in the civil war, was an attorney at Worcester.

Hello Gadget thank you for your reply, I will look at the website most interesting.
However I think my family would have thrown me out as I would have declared for parliament (whoops).

Hi Tobyma 123

Of the top of my head Icant remember the exact dates as my records are at home & Im at the library where I gain my net access before working as a family history research volunteer with the local FHS.  Here are a few of the names if thats any help ANDREWS - John, james, Michael, Thomas, William & there are a lot more, as for the Sanders line Ive got nothing at all with me for them at the moment - will let you know when Im researching next week if possible as I only use a computer once a week.

All the very best

Hello philheeks  the names do not ring a bell at the moment but I can look at my tree to see if there is anything.
My family as I said go back to 1510 in Seven Stoke but they branch out to Eldersfield and other
districts around Worcestershire.
They did marry into the Russell family that's all I can remember without looking.
There is a direct line for the Cliftons up to Birmingham in the 20th cent.

Hi Tony

My research at Severn Stoke is nothing to boast about & as you will have seen the parish registers you will know that some of them are rather hard to read after the water damage that was caused some years ago when a fire was being brougt under control

All the very best

Phil

ps I wont inflict the few records I have on you lol

Hello philheeks I have a bigger task trying to get back further than 1510.
It is a shame that Seven Stoke has been flooded so many times to damage what records exist.

It is a hard life for us researchers (lol).
