Thank you - the Ancestry tree also mentions getting the information from an index, but no indication where it may be accessed. I can't find any sign of the marriage, to Grace Udy or Grace Brokenshire, on the Cornwall OPC site - given that their son was baptised in the Bible Christian church, would their marriage be in the Anglican parish records?

Unfortunately, I'm limited to online sources at the moment - but I will keep an eye out, and hopefully find more information in future. Thanks again for trying to help.

after the Hardwicke Marriage Act of 1754 & until Civil Registration in 1837, all marriages, apart from those for Quakers or Jews, had to be in the Anglican church.

Not all records have been transcribed. It is an ongoing project. As I said, the opc for St Winnow may have records on film that haven't been transcribed as yet. If you have access to a Family Search centre, you may be able to order the film of the marriages. Cornwall Family History Society have transcribed the marriages.

Ah, thank you very much. I was led astray by the OPC saying that he had transcribed all the records he had for St Winnow - but the Family History Society transcription is available from FindMyPast. :-)

Grace Brokenshire married Joseph Udy in 1809 in Lanlivery, and then Henry Moon in St Winnow in 1818. So that's explained, but unfortunately the witnesses aren't recorded. And it doesn't give any further clue as to which Henry Moon is which, as far as I can tell. I'll keep poking, though.

3rd Aug 1800 Henry son of John and Joan Moon
Both fathers occ Basket Weavers so that doesnt help they are probably brothers

Theres a will online you can download of the Henry Moon Senior of Polscho St Winnow basketmaker 1853 you can see if Henry jnr is mentioned as a son or not .Might help decipher right parents

the witnesses will be recorded on the parish entry which you can get from the record office in Truro, along with the will.

Thanks, welsh lady, and that's a very good point about the two possible fathers being brothers. I'll have a look out for that will, as I'm not currently in a position to order physical copies of the records.

Hi Sally_Maria,

I'm a descendant of the Moon families in Polscoe/St. Winnow. My Great grandmother was Catherine Moon, her father was Arthur Moon.
There was a very large laundry in St.Blazey, which is not far from Polscoe at all. The laundry was owned by the Moon family, but I think it was the brother to my GG Grandfather Arthur.
The laundry was very successful, but the site where the landry stood was demolished around 15 years ago (guesswork!) to be replaced by a housing estate.
One of the streetnames in the estate is called 'Aberdeen Road' as the laundry was called 'Moon's Aberdeen Laundry' due to the wife being Scottish and from Aberdeen.

Moon family members still live in the Lostiwthiel/St.Blazey area today.

Below is a link to a photo on Twitter of one of the trucks used by the laundry, there are more websites to look through about the laundry if you google.

Hi annie0103 - pleased to meet you. :-)

Thank you for the information about the laundry. My gg-grandfather was John Moon, who was the grandson of the Henry and Grace I was looking for. He was a printer, and moved his family to London in 1881.

Lovely to meet you too! I'll have to check my family tree at the weekend, it could be my GGF was brother or cousin to yours?
Best wishes
