Truan family:
« on: Saturday 20 September 14 16:25 BST (UK) »
For some time I have been researching the Truan (all spellings) family.
In 1851 living at Church Town Gerrans Peter 1801 (age 50) born St Just in Roseland and his wife Eliza born 1815 (age 36) plus children.
I have traced their children John, George and Maria but haven't had any luck with Peter born 1849 at Veryan and Joseph born 1850 born Gerrans or Harriet born 1845.
The Truan surname varies over the years.
Any help appreciated.
Added: Have found this- 26 Aug 1854 Burial of Joseph Alfred TRUAN age 1y 6m, Churchtown, Gerrans. Mos likely Jospeh bap 1850.

Hi,

There is a newspaper article in The Royal Cornwall Gazette, Falmouth Packet, and General Advertiser Friday March 10  1865 where a boy was charged by Peter Truan (a labourer living in Gerrans) for willfully damaging his door,

Your post shows Peter (son) as born 1849, the 1851 shows he was born 1840  :)

I expect that yours is the correct one. Maybe they had another son they name Joseph who also died.

The only ones that I haven't information for are Peter born 1840 at Veryan and Joseph born 1850 (probably died)born Gerrans and Harriet born 1845.
I see that in the 1871 census Peter and Eliza have another daughter named Elizabeth who was 14. Another one to look for now!
In 1881 Eliza is a widow living with Maria and Elizabeth plus  a grandson named William age 7. I wonder who his parents are ::) Their surname is now Truran.
In 1891 Maria is living with her brother John in Camborne. His surname is now Truen.

I was in touch with the author of the linked post about 5 years ago and suggested that the baptism at St Just in Roseland for Peter Harris Trewen, base child of Ann Trewen, baptised on 31 March 1805 might fit the bill.  My research on the Truran line (all spellings) relates to the family of Mark & Ann Truran living in Portscatho, who are not connected to Peter.  Mark's own baptism at St Michael Penkevil in 1825 was written as Trewan.

It is a well known fact that illegitimate brides & grooms will invent a father's name & occupation when they marry so as not to leave a blank space in the register.  Either that or they marry miles away from home. ;)

Thanks for that idea. I wonder if a Harris (maybe a surname)could be the father of Peter Trewen and the mother decided to name him on the baptism.
