Irish birth 1836 - Emma Furlong
« on: Sunday 09 November 14 06:22 GMT (UK) »
Greetings all,

I am seeking information on a certain Emma Furlong, born in Ireland in 1836.
She died in England, don't know when or exactly where.

She married a Richard Donohue (sometimes O'Donoghue) and they had five children - Minnie (Mary), William, Emma, John and Flora.

I am hoping to find the parents of Emma Furlong, and hopefully also the parents of Richard Donohue as well.

I haven't searched in Ireland before, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Regards,

Quentin

Just wondering if this is Flora's baptism in Birmingham in 1875 - father, Richard Donohue, mother Emma Carlton Donohue https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NLDQ-F19

Hello,
I was just going to post with similar information.
According to 1871, there are other children. One is Margaret - baptised Birmingham with mother Emma Carlton

Lancashire BMD has a marriage 1852 with Richard Donoghue and Emma Caltion as spouses.
The marriage at Manchester Cathedral has this info.

December 26th 1852
Richard Donoghue Tailor 23 yrs Tailor 40 Pilling Street. Father James, tailor
Emma Caltion 16 yrs Halliwell Street father Benjamin Caltion, Barrister.

Whilst Emma's surname is not clear, Caltion is clearly written in father's name.

Heywood

Thanks ShaunJ and heywood,
for those prompt and helpful responses.

Firstly - it does look like that baptism is Flora's.

Secondly - not so sure about Emma's surname now.
I think Caltion looks like the best bet.
That's an unusual name, should help me with searches.

Regards,

Quentin

Thanks again ShaunJ :)

Actually I just found that blog by Glenniah, and according to that story, Minnie Donohue's mum (i.e. Richard Donohue's wife) was definitely Emma Furlong. The mystery deepens.

That's an interesting account.
I was going to suggest a birth certificate but of course they would have Carlton/Caltion for the ones we have baptisms for. :-\
