Margaret Roseburgh, wife, married, aged 47, born Liberton Edinburgh
James Roseburgh, son, unmarried, Wool Factory Worker, aged 18, born Edinburgh

Courtesy of Freecen.

This looks like a likely candidate for John's family in 1841:-

Hardgate Street, St John s Haddington

John Roseburgh aged 40, Groom, born East Lothian
Rebecca Roseburgh aged 40, born outside of census county
Elizabeth Roseburgh, 15, born outside of census county
George Roseburgh, 13, born outside of census county
John Roseburgh, 6, born East Lothian
Jane Roseburgh, 4, born East Lothian
James Gibson, 20, joiner journeyman, born East Lothian
William Morrison, 20, joiner journeyman, born East Lothian

The father's occupation as groom is a winning factor.

Regards
Jean

No problem.

At a loose end when hubby is watching the football!

There's a death in Haddington East Lothian that you may care to take a look at.

Rebecca ROSBURGH (watch the spelling)in 1860

Jean

Hi

It's on Scotlandspeople. Just watch the spelling. It's useful on SP to use an * in place of letters you are not sure of. For example when I searched for Roseburgh I typed Ros*burg*. Also for Rebecca I typed Rebec*a in case her name was spelled with only one c. It is spelled Rebecca on the death cert, but on the 1851 census it is spelled with one c!

It may be of use to view this census on SP as it should show where Rebecca was born, as the 1841 only shows that she was born out of the county. This may help to trace her birth, if you don't already know this.

Another certificate you may want to look at is the marriage of John Roseburgh and Margaret Crawford in 1858 in Stow MIDLOTHIAN. Again on SP
Regards
Jean

Thank you! As soon as i can afford some credits i will check those out :) Sounds promising. I remember my gran also mentioning that somebody in our family was an artist who had paintings displayed in a gallery in Edinburgh, do you know how i found that out? I think she said it was her Grandfather who would have been either George Lyon or William Roseburgh... I'd love to see one of his paintings :)

Good luck with your researching! Hope the various cerificates yield some information.

Can't help you with either Roseburgh or Lyon being artists. Had a quick "google" but nothing came up

Jean
