Mercy Neighbour?
« on: Monday 13 October 14 21:55 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find a family. Mercy Neighbour married John Obree in 1866 in Canterbury Kent.
Her father was Thomas Neighbour born 1806 and mother Elizabeth Courtnell 1801, they married 14/12/1823 in Bray Berkshire.

I can find the family in the 1841 census, but every single one of them vanish after that, in the 1841 there is, father Thomas, mother Elizabeth, daughters Frances, Catherine and Mercy, also there is son Samuel.

I can find nothing on the family after 1841 inculding deaths, marriages apart from Mercy's marriage to John Obree.

Any help would be great thanks.

Sammy.

From the marriage certificate, what was Thomas Neighbour's occupation?

It came from the Canterbury Marriage records, there was no occupation down for the father.

Hi the original for that marriage states Thomas is a Labourer

Possibly the family were travellers as Bray/Canterbury well known areas for travellers?

Have you got her in 1871 to establish a place of birth, and year?

I do yes, she was born in Cookham Berkshire, but she seems to be under the name Eliza in 1871 which was her mothers name, also in 1871 it says she was born in Canterbury, but she wasn't, she married in Canterbury, but wasn't born there.

She also died under the name Eliza Cullen Obree in 1873 her husband died in 1876. It's all very odd, not sure why her name and place of birth keep changing, but then if I was born as Mercy Neighbour I might change mine too.

Hello,
Are Mercy and Eliza the same person?

Do you have a child's birth certificate with a mother's name?

Just to get the info in front of us - here is the 1871

2b North Street, Deal Kent
John Obree 31 mariner bn Sandwich
Eliza 30 bn Canterbury
Cecily 8 bn Deal
John 6 bn Deal

Presumably you are sure this is your family?

So, as Heywood as said, how did you get from this back to Mercy Neighbour born in Berkshire?

JUst to add
Here is that marriage
Jan/Feb/Mar 1866
Canterbury ref 2a 759
John Obree , Charles Clay, Mercy Neighbour and Elizabeth PAtchin

So the marriage was after the children had been born.

It is my direct family line, john their son, married Charlotte Amelia Dyer, known as Amelia. John Obree's father was Thomas Obree, on the marriage in 1864 in Canterbury John is the right age, his father is Thomas Obree, there was no other John Obree of the correct age for it to be anyone else. There is no Mercy Obree at any time in the census, also no death for a Mercy Obree and no record of them leaving the UK.
