Hawick baptisms - STAINTON

I have been searching for my ggg grandfather Robert Stainton's birth record in Scotland without any luck.

It is reported that he was born in Hawick, Rox on 25 Dec 1825 to James Stainton - music teacher.

Any help in finding his parents/siblings or his baptism would be fantastic - or a nudge in the right direction

Hi Jenny,
Had a look on the 1871 census for England and there is only one Robert Stainton from Scotland.

Robert Stainton  Head   46   Independant Minister         Scotland
                                              Garden of chapel

Eliza Hayton Stainton  Wife  39       Kirkby  Lausdell   Westmoreland
Robert Kirk Stainton  son  10           Huddersfield, Yorkshire
James Hayton Stainton  son  7        Huddersfield
Jane Shaw       28   Servant             Sheffield

Yep that is them - my gggrandfather is Robert Kirk Stainton.

I only wish I could find out where the Rev Robert Stainton was born and who his parents were. I have been searching for years

Have you tried tracing any records that came from the chapel that he worked in.
The address on the census was 95 Broom Spring Lane  Ecclesall  Bierlow  Yorkshire.  Their neighbour was living in The Chapel House.
Maybe someone from the Yorkshire area maybe able to help you.

Sort of.. I got his birth date from a memorial plaque there. I will keep trying... and trust that he wants to be found
