Register of Marriages Kirkby Stephen area.

Hi All,
I am unable to find a marriage of my Gt. Grandparents.

Michael Richardson and Mary Dent. He was a widower in Nov 1855 with young children and had another son in Nov 1856 with Mary Dent.

They lived at Bleatarn just outside Warcop.

I am not able to find a marriage on any of the web sites so wondered if he had married and registered the marriage at Kirkby Stephen then it had got missed out of sending a copy to the General records Office.

Does anyone know where I would apply for a search for that?

I know they may never have got married but would like to leave no stone unturned before I decide that!

To make matters worse they were not C of E. May have been Methodists/Weslyan Methodists or something like that.

Any one any ideas?

There is a Michael Richardson marriage in 1853 on freebmd but no spouse name shown

The bride for above marriage was Sarah Robson

His first marriage was to Dorothy Dent in 1836 but she died Nov 1855. So I am looking for his second marriage to MARY DENT after that time.

Did you get Mary's maiden name from a child's birth cert

1861 shows her b 1826 Bongate and there is a 23yr old Tamar Dent also b Bongate in household shown as a visitor

Yes - sure of surname from a few birth certs.

That is her and her sister is Tamar. Father Joseph. Mother Mary.

Was Mary related to Dorothy?    Just thinking that the church did not allow marriage to deceased wife's sister.
Genuki will give you the registrations districts and the areas they cover.  Kirkby Stephen was under East Ward.

Yes they were related. Mary was Dorothy's niece. That may be a reason for not getting married but I really wanted to make sure as they were together for years and on birth certs of their children and his will, death cert etc. she was named as his wife.

I know where Kirkby Stephen is but what I don't know is if they have a Register Office or where I should apply for a search or a certificate.

I have exhausted other places to search.

If you google East Ward registration district it will tell you where it is based now and you will see that KS is a district office, though I can't think where it is.
