BARLOW,William Taylor
« on: Sunday 25 May 14 10:29 BST (UK) »
Folks,
William's marriage certificate for 1859 in Ipswich,Queensland virtually only had his and his spouse's name,fortunately the Anglican Archives were able to supply full detail from PR.
He lists his place of birth as Kent c 1820,father Jacob,mother Ann,nee Taylor,which led me to the marriage in Lydd  on 17 Jul 1811 and baptism of his brother,John,on 30 Apr 1815.My problem is that i can find no record of William's baptism in Lydd or surrounding parishes.Jacob is recorded as "Soldier,Royal Artillery",but to date i have had no result.

Can't find Bendley in Cheshire but there is a Bosley, and there was a Jacob Barlow baptised there on 31 July 1785. Son of Moses and Martha.

Possibly a previous marriage for William?

17 June 1838, at Prestbury.

William Barlow, a minor, cotton spinner of Macclesfield, father Jacob Barlow, hawker;
Elizabeth Wilson, of full age, of Macclesfield, father John Wilson, a labourer.

Witnesses Ann Wilson and James Price.

This must be the Elizabeth Barlow who appears in the 1841 census.

That baptism at Lydd was conducted at the Independent church there by the Reverend Thomas Ladson. His name crops up in various Baptist journals of the time. (I think he was the Thomas Taylor Ladson who is buried in Lydd churchyard http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/MIsLydd/MIsLydd.htm )

So the Barlows were baptists.

I am wondering if the William Barlow who came to NSW on the Canton in 1848 is your William - he was aged 30, a baptist from Macclesfield. http://tinyurl.com/np23kru
