Hi Cath

There is a list. It is the muster roll and paylist. They are in Kew. However I have a few for the 41st Regiment and can tell you he was Thomas Hughes.

I have:

= Q1 1834 - 168 Colour Sergeant Thomas Hughes with the 41st Foot in ?, India
= Q2 1840 - 148 QMS Thomas Hughes with the 41st Foot at Belguam, India

I think he is 168 as there is a Private with the number 148.

That is all I have. They returned to England a few years later, but he is not listed. So he may have transferred to another regiment in order to stay in India. Or he may have died, or been discharged.

Ken

Hi Cath

Eureka - http://www.findmypast.co.uk/army-service-records-show-image.action?sdrfnbr=970572026

Born Tullow*, Carlow in 1798. He was 148 after all. Regimental numbers were introduced in the late 1820s. He would have been the 148th longest serving 'other rank' at that time.

* FindMyPast have it as Tullon

Happy Mother's Day - if appropriate.

Another example of why you should always revisit 'lost causes'. By the way I took the image of the muster that gives his details a few days after your post in 2009. But then you were looking for a Sgt J Hughes, not QMS Thomas Hughes.
