1851 census lookup - Kenneth McLENNAN
« on: Monday 02 September 13 12:05 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Kenneth McLENNAN/MacLENNAN  b. abt 1831 Ross and Cromarty

A possible brother Donald about 2 years younger.  No parents listed on death reg.

Kenneth was a stone cutter when he married after arriving in Australia in 1855.
Probably half a dozen named Kenneth so I hope occupation helps.

I'd like a look up please for Kenneth in 1851 assuming he was still in Ross and Cromarty.

Thanks,

Fred

Hello Monica.

Thanks for looking.

The shipping record in 1855 shows Kenneth as 24 and Donald as 22. I was working on the assumption they were brothers but I have not found a death yet for Donald. I was hoping it listed parents as Kenneth's does not.

They may not be brothers. The family name is rather common in Ross and Cromarty. There are nine listed on the shipping record and most were listed as being from Ross.

I'll have to consider the next step with this one. Perhaps the names of the children born in Australia will help.

Regards,

Fred

Hello Skoosh,

Thanks for the link.

I have several families in my tree connected with the clearances.

My g g grandfather Alexander McLennan came to Australia in 1863, his brothers John (22) & William (19) Parents John (dead before 1841) mother Margaret. In 1841 census they have a brother, Kenneth born 1828? William is not on census, nor a Donald. But my g g grandfather called his son Donald. :/

Don't think I've really helped any. Good luck! :)
