I understand the "Traylor" surname probably originated from the place name of "Maes Treylow" near Presteigne, Wales.  The ancestor of the Traylors in the U.S. is Edward Traylor (b.1649) who sailed from Bristol, England to Virginia around 1663 in a ship with approximately 15 persons including Captain Jonathan Richards.

Consulting the death records of the National Archives in Kew, England, Griffeths Traylor was buried at St. Michaels in Onibury, Shropshire in 1644.  In addition, there is a will of 'Griffith Troyler' dated 1644 from the same town of Onibury which is a possible orthographical error of the same Griffeths Traylor buried in 1644.  Could he possibly be related to Edward Traylor?

Also, what was the reason for his departure from Bristol?  Since Charles II came into power in 1660 and began persecuting christians, could his departure be related to these persecutions?  Could he have been kidnapped or could there
have been another reason?  Any possible additional information provided on the Traylors in Presteigne would be greatly appreciated.

Hello ronaldt  :)

Welcome to Rootschat!

The Clarendon Code acts were intended to support the Anglican Church over other Churches, and to prevent meetings by dissenters. Some Quakers went to America, and some were persecuted there, e.g. Boston Martyrs.

Do you have any indication of relgious denomination of the Traylors?

Kind Regards
Morgan

Wow this is getting quite interesting now.  Sorry for the delay in responding but been away on a trip to the States.

So, can we trace this Edward Traylor who sailed from Bristol to the Traylors in Presteigne?  Just wondedring if this was a great great Uncle or similar to the Edwin Traylor I'm trying to link it to from Presteigne.  Any info on relates you have back in Presteigne would be greatly appreciated as we're a bit stuck

Oh wow - do you have a family tree typed up at all you could send me via email or something?  We're going back down to Presteigne next month to try and find out more so it would be really useful to have some more details.
