There was a George Maxwell a miner, Armadale, who has five kids listed in Bathgate Mortality Records, 1891-1922, John, Janet, Rachel, Mary & George.

Hello Chris,

Had a "middle of the night" moment. Where were they buried before 1899? Looked at the Bathgate records and there is family from Woodend from 1876 to 1898. Have sent you a PM.

Martha was living in Armadale at the time of her death. She is buried in the same lair as William. Info in PM.

Hi Chris,
On the 1851 Census there is a Martha Dallas lodging 77 Hall Craig Street, Airdrie New Monkland. She is a 14 year old Factory girl (d.o.b 1836/37?) born New Monkland.
Martha is lodging with a family called Roberts.
Also lodging at this address are-
George Niven age 27 Ironstone Miner born Glasgow
James Niven  age 18  Ironstone Miner born New Monkland.

Looby  :)

Just a suggestion,
Maybe Martha's name (the one she was christened with) was actually Margaret.
There is a Margaret Dallas born at New Monkland 3 Nov 1836 and christened 11 Dec 1836 - her father is George Dallas her mother Margaret Niven.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY7H-SW1

This would make sense with Martha calling her son George Niven Maxwell.
Also wonder if the girl I found on 1851 Census lodging along with 2 Nivens (George and James) is perhaps alone with cousins or uncles??

Looby  :)

Hi Again Chris.

Margaret Nivin married George Dallas at New Monkland Aug 1836.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT1W-G4J

Margaret Niven married Alexander Lamond at New Monkland Jul 1840
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT1W-XJ6

Suspect this is the same woman - George Dallas probably died  :(

1841 Census  Graham Street, Airdrie , New Monkland

Alexander Lamond  age 25 Coal Miner   born outside Census County
Margret  Lamond     age 25                  born Lanarkshire
Martha Lamond   age 4               born Lanarkshie
George Lamond       age 3                    born     "
Robert Lamond       age 5 months         born     "

I'm sure this is Martha in 1841 on the Census with her stepfather's surname.

Margaret Niven and George Dallas also had a son George in 1838 -https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT1W-XJ6

Can't find a birth for Robert Lamond but would assume he was Alexander Lamond's son going by the dates.
And can't find any of the family ( bar Martha lodging with the Roberts and with the 2 Nivens) on the 1851.
Looby  :)
