WAGNER of Sault Ste Marie and Owen Sound

Hi all,

I realised today I have never posted about my Canadian family in this forum so I thought I'd cast the net out there and see who might recognise them - you never know!

My great-great-grandparents Edward John WAGNER and Charlotte Alice nee FITCH emigrated to Canada in 1910 and 1911 respectively (great-great-grandma waited for the birth of her first granddaughter who later became my Grandma!).

They left my Great-grandma in England but took their sons, Ernest Ivor Charles (known as Ivor) and Stanley Vincent (known as Vincent) with them. One son Lawrence was in the British Army, and one Albert, had already emigrated to Canada.

Here's some of what I know of them - hopefully enough to get a bell ringing somewhere - we live in hope!

Hi Kazz,

Here are a few in the 1911 Census:

Looks like Albert arrived in 1907 and Edward and son Ivor in 1911.  Charlotte and the other children must have arrived after the census which was dated June 1, 1911.

I did know that some were on the 1911 census and some not! My grandma was born 8 May 1911 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, so I knew that her grandmother was still in England at that time.

But there were a few details there I hadn't noted down - have done so now!

This may be Ivor ... fibbiing about his age and who his mother was, I think, to get enlisted...WW1

Yes this is him - Charlotte often went by Alice (her 2nd name)

Karen I can see your Lawrence Bramleigh on the CWGC, but he has not been listed at the The Canadian Virtual War Memorial, ( You'll have to see that he gets his name on there) nor can I find his signups...

Hi JJ,

He was a career soldier in the British Royal Marines - he joined as a lad of 15 before his parents emigrated to Canada, so that's why he's not listed as part of a Canadian force.

I knew her as Auntie Bea - I did meet her once but I was only about 5 or 6 at the time.

She seemed like a really nice lady.
