Help please searching for Thomas Barnes born abt 1866 Lancashire.

My g grandfather Thomas Barnes born abt 1866 married Lillie Alice Sherlock 2 Jan 1889 Holy Trinity Bolton Le Moors. Thomas was a tailor, his fathers name acc to marriage certificate was Joseph.  Thomas & Lillie had 5 children Annie, John, Thomas, Lillie and Philip. Eldest 4 children were baptized. Thomas is supposed to have died in 1901 the year his youngest son Philip was born.  I have not been able to find any other paper work for Thomas.  I cannot find them on the 1891 census.  On the 1901 census my g grandmother Lillie is a widow.  I have searched through all censuses in Lancashire for Thomas Barnes with father Joseph without being able to join the dots.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you  heatherjulie and claire.t. You are wonderful. I have been searching for a long time to no avail and you have managed to find them in hours. I am so grateful. The 1891 census was a wonderful find.  I need to do more checking on the possibility of the 1897 death.

very interesting to come your post about Thomas Barnes, Tailor, of Bolton Lancs.  Likewise, he is also my G Grandfather.  I am the Gson of Thomas Barnes born 1896 in Bolton, who emigrated to Australia in 1926 with his wife Florence and mother Lilly Alice Barnes (nee Sherlock).

I have quite a bit of documentation - scans of documents that I would be happy to share with you along this line of the family.  I too live in Australia (outer west of Melbourne).  Please get in touch if this interests you.

Thomas was born in Great Orton Cumberland - as stated on the 1891 Census.  The family goes back there some way.  I strongly suspect he was the apprentice to Corry in the 1881 Census.  I would be interested in any photographs that you may have of him.  The earliest photos of have of the family date from the 1910s decade.
