I am researching a possible link through my paternal great grandmother (Anne Telford) to the Scottish engineer, Thomas Telford. I have tried to locate family history records for him, but although he is mentioned on several websites, there is only mention of his career - nothing regarding his own family and ancestry. Does anyone know of records for Thomas Telford that might give more clues to his wider family?

I recall that his father was a shepherd from Echelfechan (? sp). I have some books on it somewhere. I'll dig them out. He seemed to have spent a lot of his time in areas that I am interested in. See my interests below.

I'll certainly have a look for you Andy. He was in Edinburgh, then Shropshire/Denbighshire - met up with Poulteney - designed a bit of Ullapool - then went back to Shropshire to be chief civil engineer for A5 - parliamentary stuff on that. This from memory so chronology may be a bit out.
Not sure about his marriage and any children yet but will definitely look.

My lums ain't reeking at the moment - too hot

As Telford died London,1834, it would be worth your while going to the National Archives site anddownloading his will. This would probably give you further information.
