If you google Dumbreck then Wikipedia tells you it is in Glasgow.

Drumbeck is just to the south of Closeburn village.

The OS  map link is:

On a modern map it's close to the 'Telephone Exchange':

PS -
Craclyn - there is a Dumbeck in Glasgow but it's not the one that Geoff is looking for - this one is Dumfriesshire

Hi Geoff

Scotlands People have a baptism of a Charles Dalrymple in Closeburn on 8 Oct 1795 s/o Charles Dalrymple and Sarah McCall. The one who died might be father or son.

Does it give any more information on the burial record?  The record does sound as if it might well be the older one. Maybe an MI (Monumental Inscription)  might give more info.

Brilliant Gadget now to track down this Charles, but is he my Charles??
According to various stat. certs. my Charles was a Schoolmaster. He married a Sarah McCall in
Closeburn (both of this parish) on 10 Feb 1786. They were in Dumbreck when daughter Janet was born in 1788.
Just got your latest post---
The younger Charles died on 22 June 1878 at Boathouse, Keir parish.

It might be worth contacting the Dumfries and Galloway FHS to see if they might have some MI info, which might  give info about Charles snr's parents. They have helped me in the past:

http://www.dgfhs.org.uk/index.asp

They also have MI booklets:

Any wills?
