Parcell Rees Bowen, MC, DFC and bar - died 1920 Dublin
« on: Thursday 26 August 10 14:42 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out the exact circumstances of Parcell Bowen's death. He was a much decorated officer from Carmarthen. And is recorded on Carmarthen County War Memorial

His body was found in Lower Merrion St, Dublin on 28  Oct 1920

The first newspaper reports say he died of natural causes, but his funeral in Wales has a Daily Graphic report saying that he was murdered by Sinn Fein

I would be very grateful for anything that anyone can add to the circumstances surrounding his death

Yes, that is the site that I put a link to above, and is the only stuff I could find in Wales

Trouble is that there are a number of errors, first the date of his death is 1920 not 1921, secondly his death was in Merrion St not Herrion St

The year is obviously more important

I have since found out that his landlady at 28 Upper Fitzwilliam St was a "Merrion Hall" religion - this is in fact Plymouth Brethren. And his body from the Irish paper report was found opposite Merrion Hall - a strange coincidence

But I have not been able to get a  Welsh report of his death. I find it odd, in that MC and DFC and bar is a very heavily decorated officer. No obit in London Times, one would have expected to see quite a lot on his death

And back to his death was it murder or natural causes

What does his death cert show as cause of death?
If it was suspicious there must have been an inquest .

These were troubled times in Ireland, dead soldiers did not have inquests, there was a military court of inquiry held in camera in all cases
