James Bullock
« on: Saturday 11 August 12 01:24 BST (UK) »
James BULLOCK b 1810 Gloucester,Gloucestershire, parents unknown, married Sarah BLISS (b1818) m 1838, she died 1859. James was a fishmonger, I think he possibly remarried after Sarah died(they had 8 children). Would like any info on James' parents and his second wife if anyone can find it, (including dod for James please).

Many thanks
Barb :)

all censuses he is living in paddington his age seems a bit out for a 1810 birth
1851- aged 36 living with sarah
1861- aged 43 down as widowed
1871- aged 53 living with jane
1881- aged 60 living with jane
1891- jane bullock is down as widowed

possible reason
death index
name; james bullock
y.o.r. 1882
reg dist; marylebone
age at death; 62

going by censuses we can narrow his second marriage down to 1861-1867 his son edwin was born in 1867 in paddington

what proof do you have he was born 1810 only all the censuses say 1816-1820?

if you really want to find his second wifes maiden name you could order the birth cert of his son edwin
birth index
name; edwin bullock
y.o.r. 1867
qtr; jan/feb/mar
dist; kensington(this is the reg dist for paddington)
vol;1a
page; 62
once you have his wifes maiden name it should be easier to find her censuses before her marriage
it should also make it easier to find the marriage between james bullock/jane

Hi Barb,
James BULLOCK m. Sarah BLISS 1838 @ St Nicholas, Gloucester 11 417 Dec Qtr. I'll check the St Nicholas Marriage Register next time I'm in Glos Archives (GA) to establish the fathers' names of the groom and bride, and may then be able to find out the baptism dates for both of them.

Wozzle

The only reason I have dob as 1810 is from family bible we have, also the IGI have it as 1810 in the England Marriages 1538-1973, his age is listed as 28 when married in 1838 Sarah Bliss, no mention of parents names etc. Thank you for the information you have put up.(I too noticed the descrepancies in the dates re census)
=========

Victor,  Sarah's parents are Jesse Bliss & Sarah Kite, would dearly love information on the parents of James if at all possible, will appreciate anything you can come up with.

It's a bit of a side-line to your search but you might be interested to know that Jesse Bliss married again in 1849, to Amelia Pitman of Tewkesbury, over 30 years his junior, and they had four children together.

I have a copy of Jesse's will, dated 15th December 1859 ( he died 27th February 1865 and probate was 7th April 1865). He only mentions two children: Richard William Bliss  and Elizabeth Guppy, wife of John Guppy of Prestbury, a tailor. Apart from £40 for Richard and £10 for Elizabeth, everything is left to his widow, Amelia, the sole executrix.
