in 1846 an ancestor was married according to the certificate "in the parochial chapel" in the chapelry of Ingleton yorks.
now ingleton has a perfectly good ancient church, st marys, so what does this mean.
I ask because the lady may have been living over the border in kirby lonsdale and may be non-conformist.

If I'm reading the GenUKI pages for Ingleton correctly, they suggest that St Mary's Ingleton was itself the 'parochial chapel'. At the time (Genuki says), Ingleton was within the parish of Low Bentham, so the main parish church would have been St John the Baptist at Kirkby Lonsdale

Hope that helps

I,m taking that to mean that a baptism in the "parish of bentham" on the igi could have been at either church, hope I,m correct

added, also that "of this parish" could mean living in Ingleton or Bentham or Kirby
Lonsdale, which is over the border in westmorland, which is why I was confused :) :) :) :)
